NURS 314 - Foundational Concepts
NURS 491 - Principles of Practice: Role Transition

Intro Page

Purpose of Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to enable the student to rediscover his or her personal philosophy of nursing as it exists upon the completion of the baccalaureate nursing program.

Student Approach to Assignment

While writing my philosophy of nursing paper I decided to reflect on my beliefs about nursing from when I first started the program to my beliefs toward the end of the program. This assignment has allowed me to see my own personal growth as I’ve gained new knowledge from class lectures, and new skills and experiences during my clinical rotations. Being able to reflect on my original nursing philosophy has helped me identify the ways I have grown as a student nurse, and it has also enabled me to identify principles and beliefs that guide my professional practice.

Reason for Inclusion of this Assignment in the Portfolio

This nursing philosophy assignment is included in my nursing portfolio because it allows the reader to see my personal growth throughout the nursing program at Old Dominion University. This assignment provides insight to my personal definition of nursing, and it showcases some of my student nurse experiences during my clinical rotations. This paper also provides readers with an in depth idea of what I think it means to be a nurse as well as some ethical principles that I feel are important to the nursing profession. The following end-of-program outcomes are identified below.
