NURS 453 - Adult Health Nursing II
Intro Page
Purpose of Assignment
The purpose of this case study is to integrate knowledge from the humanities and sciences, including nursing research and theory, to plan, provide, and evaluate holistic care provided to a client selected during this clinical rotation.
Student Approach to Assignment
The patient that I chose for this assignment was a 48 year old white female who presented to the hospital with abdominal pain and hematemesis. She had an extensive medical history, and this allowed me to enhance my knowledge and skills as a student nurse. I chose her for my case study because her condition could help nourish my nursing knowledge about gastrointestinal bleeds, hematemesis, and decompensated alcoholic liver cirrhosis. Providing care for this patient allowed me to improve my confidence with caring for patients in the critical care setting.
Reason for Inclusion of this Assignment in the Portfolio
The inclusion of this assignment in my portfolio is mainly due to the fact that it highlights the care that I provided to a complex patient, and demonstrates integration of a wide variety of end-of-program outcomes. This assignment also demonstrates my ability to apply previous nursing knowledge to a complex case by integrating critical thinking skills, nursing interventions, and research to a specific patient. In this case study the following objectives are identified below.
